Scale: 18,500 SF
Status: Completed 2024 Land Office’s latest project for ArtCenter enhances its growing South Campus with state-of-the-art fabrication studios. Following the example of Craig Ellwood’s Hillside Campus building, our design emphasized structural clarity and elegant simplicity. 

The workshops are accommodated in a straightforward volume rising to north-facing clerestories that bring in even daylight. Support equipment for building systems occupies a linear platform at the rear screened by metal panels. Perforated canopies and overhead garage doors expand teaching and work areas into new exterior spaces.

The permeability of the building’s skin responds to interior uses, yielding a composition of solid and perforated metal panels, translucent polycarbonate, and clear glazing. Layered translucency admits filtered light and strategic views; in the evening, the building emits a soft glow.
